| 授業の概要 | This course aims to teach students the skills needed for reading and writing in English for general academic purposes. |

| 授業の目的 | This second-year course will focus on enhancing the reading and writing skills students learned in the first year. It will enable students to handle more complex texts and work across a broader range of genres. The course will cover techniques for reading and analyzing academic texts、 and it will improve students' abilities to write and express ideas clearly. |
| 授業の到達目標 |
The different goals (selected from the four stated below) will be set according to students’ needs: 1. use strategies such as skimming、 scanning、 and careful reading to understand a text at different levels、 2. critically evaluate texts、 3.use vocabulary and grammar properly、 4. compose compositions according to genre-specific structure and elements. |
| 授業時間外の学習に関する事項 | Weekly homework assignments will be completed. Students are expected to spend an hour or more on homework for this class. |
| 教科書 |
The textbook will be chosen by the instructor. The content of these textbooks is based on themes commonly found in academic settings in English-speaking countries and learning objectives will not necessarily go from basic to more advanced as in many grammar-focused textbooks. |

Dictionaries are available through students' electronic devices such as smartphones. Students may also bring a paper dictionary to class. |

Effective communication skills in a foreign language cannot be gotten without practice. A positive attitude and dedication to learning English for the purposes of using it outside of the classroom will result in real improvement. To support students’ needs、 some changes may be made to the content and/or schedule. |
