詳細情報/Detailed Information

授業の概要 This course aims to teach students the skills needed for reading and writing in English for general academic purposes.
授業のキーワード Reading、 Writing、 Listening、 Speaking、 English for Academic Purposes
授業の目的 Improving reading and writing skills through the knowledge and use of appropriate language in various academic disciplines is the purpose of this course. Students will learn various reading strategies such as skimming、 scanning、 and how to infer meaning when reading. Analyzing and synthesizing information through integrated tasks will improve students` ability to apply their English skills in real-world situations. Critical thinking skills in English will be developed through activities requiring students to do tasks such as distinguishing between fact and opinion、  analyzing data visualizations such as graphs、 and evaluating and producing evidence to support claims.
授業の到達目標 The different goals (selected from the four stated below) will be set according to students’ needs:
1. use strategies such as skimming、 scanning、 and careful reading to understand a text at different levels、
2. critically evaluate texts、
3.use vocabulary and grammar properly、
4. write according to genre-specific structure and elements.


授業時間外の学習に関する事項 Weekly homework assignments will be completed.  Students are expected to spend an hour or more on homework for this class.
教科書 The textbook will be chosen by the instructor.
The content of these textbooks is based on themes commonly found in academic settings in English-speaking countries and learning objectives will not necessarily go from basic to more advanced as in many grammar-focused textbooks.
参考文献・その他資料 Dictionaries are available through students' electronic devices such as smartphones. Students may also bring a paper dictionary to class.
成績評価方法 Exams and quizzes (70%)
Instructor-dependent scoring (30%)

担当教員から Attendance is not included as part of evaluation. However、 performance in each class will be appropriately recognized.
To support students’ needs、 some changes may be made in the content and/or schedule in order for improvement.


受講条件 Students must have completed and be competent in the requirements of 「英語講読ⅠA」
英語講読ⅠAで、一定基準に達していなければ受講できない。
