詳細情報/Detailed Information

授業の概要 This course aims to provide students with a strong foundation in English for General Academic Purposes with an emphasis on practical use.
授業のキーワード Speaking、 Listening、 Reading、 Writing、 English for Academic Purposes
授業の目的 Language skills such as discussion、 debate、 and presenting information in a group setting are the focus of this course. A textbook containing activities for improving vocabulary and grammatical range、 critical thinking skills、 and practical skills such as speaking and listening in different contexts will be used in the class. Through guided practice、 students will improve their English communication skills and become independent in English communication.

授業の到達目標 The different goals (selected from the four stated below) will be set according to students’ needs.
By completing this class、 students will be able to do the following:
1. read and understand English texts、
2. listen to and understand extended texts in a variety of academic fields、
3. engage in discussion and debate、 exercising critical thinking skills、
4. present information to groups of people and participate in question and answer activities.
授業時間外の学習に関する事項 Weekly homework assignments will be completed.  Students are expected to spend an hour or more on homework for this class.
教科書 The textbook will be chosen by the instructor.
The content of these textbooks is based on themes commonly found in academic settings in English-speaking countries and learning objectives will not necessarily go from basic to more advanced as in many grammar-focused textbooks.
参考文献・その他資料 Dictionaries are available through students' electronic devices such as smartphones. Students may also bring a paper dictionary to class.
成績評価方法 Exams and quizzes (70%)
Instructor-dependent scoring (30%)

担当教員から Effective communication skills in a foreign language cannot be gotten without practice. A positive attitude and dedication to learning English for the purposes of using it outside of the classroom will result in real improvement.
受講条件 Students must have completed and be competent in the requirements of 「実用英語A」
(実用英語Aで、一定基準に達していなければ受講できない。)
